Reminder: Exam period in progress
|
Exams are currently underway across campus and the University acknowledges this can be one of the most challenging times of the semester. We also want to acknowledge the incredible effort students have put in to get to this point. For many, these exams are the final step in their ANU journey. We wish you all good luck!
We’d like to remind everyone in our community to be mindful of students who are preparing for and sitting exams. We all play a part in maintaining a respectful and supportive environment across campus, particularly during this important time.

VC's update: Steps we have taken
|
Last week, our CFO released further through On Campus. This includes how we are tracking our Renew ANU progress. After the VSS is finalised, we anticipate that salary savings will be around $50 million. Which is an extraordinary amount of work from our community, and I want to say thank you for all that you are doing to support the University. I am also very conscious that every time we talk about dollars, we are also talking about people who are and have made incredibly valuable contributions to ANU, and so I encourage every conversation to be mindful of the impact to our friends, colleagues and students.

2024 Sustainability snapshot - emissions and energy
|
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing highlights from environmental sustainability action at ANU.
First up: Emissions and Energy
|
- We’ve mapped our full carbon footprint, including value chain (Scope 3) emissions, for the first time.
- We’ve replaced gas boilers with electric heat pumps in five more buildings in 2024, reducing emissions by an estimated 700 tCO₂e annually.
- We also hit our rooftop solar target a year early, with over 1 MW now installed across campus.
|
Read more about our energy transition projects on the ANU Green website, or watch a video with ANU engineers explaining how they’re retrofitting campus buildings to run on efficient electric heat pumps.

How Mikayla Helms is keeping the language and legacy of her great grandmother’s alive
|
When ANU student Mikayla Helms began preserving her great grandmother’s endangered language as a school project, she had no idea how critical her work would become. Just weeks later, Aunty Beryl, her great grandmother and the last fluent Ngiyaampaa speaker, suffered a stroke.
Now studying Health Science at ANU and supported by the Kambri Scholars Program, Mikayla is carrying forward her Nana’s legacy, combining her passion for language, education, and First Nations health to make a difference in her community.

From Wattle to Canvas: what to expect in Semester 2
|
A new learning management system (LMS) will soon be introduced at ANU. This system is called Canvas and will begin to replace Wattle as your LMS for most courses from Semester 2, 2025. Canvas offers a range of useful features for you and your teachers that will help make your learning experience quicker, easier and more streamlined. All students will received an email closer to the launch with details on how to log in, use Canvas, and access support.
Some courses will remain on Wattle during the transition, so you may use both platforms for a period of time.
You can prepare for the transition to Canvas by visiting the Canvas transition page and familiarising yourself with the new system. Visit the Canvas transition page for students.
