Evidence-based practice has evolved over a number of decades across many professions as a method for helping practitioners make better-informed decisions, both about the problems and challenges they face and the most likely solutions. More recently this idea has caught the attention of the management profession and is slowly gaining influence. Although many managers and organisations agree in principle with the approach, it appears very difficult in practice to do. There are multiple barriers to evidence-based management and understanding the nature of these is a necessary starting point, if we want to make evidence-based management more of a reality for more organisations. But what exactly are these barriers? Where do they come from? And how can they be overcome?
