GRADNAS Seminar - Book Discussion: State Formation through Emulation- The East Asian Model

Presented by ANU College of Asia & the Pacific

Join us for a discussion on the book State Formation through Emulation - The East Asian Model published by Cambridge University Press in 2022. This volume coauthored by Chin Hao Huang and David C. Kang challenges the assumption that the European experience with war and state-making was universal. With its focus on Korea, Japan and Vietnam, the book broadens the scope of state formation in East Asia beyond the study of China itself and shows how countries in the region interacted and learned from each other and China to develop strong capacities and stable borders.
