The ANU ASEAN Crisis Simulation 2019: A Response to Extrajudicial Killings and Extradition

The ANU ASEAN Society proudly presents the ASEAN Crisis Simulation 2019: A Response to Extrajudicial Killings and Extradition happening on the 29th of September.

This year, the simulation will be set as a Special Meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) to ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR). The AICHR was inaugurated in October 2009 as a consultative body of the ASEAN. The organisation exists to promote and protect human rights and regional cooperation on human rights within its member states.

In this Special Meeting, the AICHR is responding to massive international criticism regarding extrajudicial killings in the "war on drugs" of the Philippines and the capital punishment for drug offences in Indonesia, as well as extradition treaties that have been discussed among ASEAN members particularly Cambodia, Thailand and Singapore.

This CPR Special Meeting will attempt to produce a Five-Year Work Plan to mitigate further deterioration of extrajudicial killings in ASEAN, and act as a response to the circulating extradition treaties. The Five-Year Work Plan is also envisioned to strengthen ASEAN's commitment to upholding human rights.
