'Religion and Late Labour Movements'

This paper is, among other things, a preliminary discussion of declining religious influence on labour movements in Britain and in other countries during what we might call the early and modern era (1600-1900) and specifically their decline relative to what has essentially replaced them -which, by and large, have been secular mass movements of organized Labour. Since the exact link between religion and historical Labour movements (at least in their politics) is still a rather confused one the concern here is more with establishing links from the experience - rather than as yet concrete consequences.
