Former Staffer Chris Steel joins Labor party preselection for next year’s ACT election

Education campaigner and former ACT Labor staffer Chris Steel (BA '08, LLB '14) will stand for party preselection for next year's ACT election.

Mr Steel announced his preselection bid in the seat of Murrumbidgee to family and friends on the weekend - ahead of the first anniversary of the death of his brother, Kurt Steel, an adviser to Chief Minister Andrew Barr. 

Jockeying for preselection across the major parties is well under way. Labor's nomination process has not formally opened but an announcement is due in October or November.

A member of Labor's Right faction, Mr Steel had been expected to seek preselection for more than a year. Last week he referred questions to ACT Labor secretary Matt Byrne.
