Director of Public Prosecutions in the ACT and ANU alumnus Jon White BA 1979, LLB (Hons) 1981 was appointed new Senior Counsel. The new appointment was announced by ACT Bar Association president Greg Stretton SC.
Mr White first transferred to Canberra with the Commonwealth DPP in 1990 and has served as ACT Director of Public Prosecutions since 2008.
ACT Attorney-General, Simon Corbell, congratulated Mr White on his appointment as Senior Counsel.
"As Director of Public Prosecutions Mr White has handled numerous high-profile cases, including murder trials, and he is thoroughly deserving of this recognition.” Mr Corbell said.
"Mr White has successfully taken the DPP through a period of significant change, and has worked to ensure prosecutions occur as promptly as possible, including through the moving of resources to front line prosecution services.”
"Under his leadership, the DPP has played a significant role in supporting intensive criminal listing processes before the Supreme Court, which has significantly reduced the number of cases with long waiting times."
