The 2018 Semester 2 English Language Conversation Group wrapped up in October after eleven weeks of engaging chats between ESL students and alumni volunteers.
With support from the Academic Skills & Learning Centre, this group gave students the chance to practice their spoken English in a fun, relaxed environment. Alumni volunteers, along with some generous staff, answered students' questions about Aussie slang, commiserated about study loads and offered life-saving advice on how to avoid being swooped by magpies and plovers. It was particularly wonderful to see former students reminiscing about their own years at ANU and learning about the exciting ways the University has grown and developed since then.
Student participants gave enthusiastic feedback about the value of this program, and there is broad scope to expand on it in the future. Watch this space!
