28 August 2015

'Tales To Tell' the latest release from long time collaborators and ANU alumni Alex Pertout (MPhil) and Nilusha Dassenaike (MPhil) under their project ALEX & NILUSHA has just won a Premio Internacional at the 2015 CUBADISCO Music Awards in Havana, Cuba. The awards cover a wide range of categories from folkloric to classical and every imaginable style in between. The ceremony was presented at the legendary Tropicana Club and the duo were in attendance to accept their award.

Their album reveals a collection of original compositions inspired by their wide-ranging musical interests and informed by their profound Latin American and South Asian personal roots.  It enlists an eclectic cast of outstanding national and international guests including legendary US guitarist Mike Stern (Miles Davis), award-winning pianist, composer Paul Grabowsky, Egyptian percussionist Hossam Ramzy (Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Peter Gabriel), Puerto Rican pianist Edsel Gomez (Dee Dee Bridgewater), legendary indigenous singer-songwriter and actor Tom E Lewis (Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith), Argentinian guitarist Alan Plachta, award-winning trumpeter Miroslav Bukovsky and Cuban pianist David Alfaro (Afro-Cuban All Stars) to name a few.

The album was recorded around the globe with sessions taking place in Melbourne, Buenos Aires, New York, London and Havana. CUBADISCO Music Awards (the Cuban Grammy's) is the most prestigious musical event in Cuba, with the Premio Internacional given to the most outstanding release from non-Cuban artists.
