Congratulations to Indiana University (IU) President and ANU Alumnus Professor Michael A. McRobbie AO FAHA (PhD ’79, HonLittD ’10) on receiving the U.S. Midwest Award for Outstanding Achievement. The award was presented by G’Day USA, a national public diplomacy program that promotes the relationship between the United States and Australia.
President McRobbie accepted the award at the G’Day USA Australia Day Gala in Chicago.
“The commonalities between Australia and the US include a deep commitment to education of the highest quality,” McRobbie said upon accepting the award. “Indeed, providing such an education is one of the principal ways that we can promote equality, expand opportunity and improve the world for future generations. I am enormously proud to lead an institution that, for nearly 200 years, has been dedicated to doing just that through its fundamental missions of education and research.”
President McRobbie completed his PhD in Philosophy at ANU in 1979, and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in 2010. President McRobbie has also received honorary doctorates from two other Australian universities as well as having been appointed Officer of the Order of Australia in 2010.
