Alumni Appointments in the ACT Courts

ACT Attorney-General, Simon Corbell, has announced the appointment of The Hon Justice Stephen Walmsley (LLB 1968) as an Acting Judge to the ACT Supreme Court for a period of 12 months to deal with civil matters.Justice Walmsley served as a NSW District Court judge from 2001 to 2013. He was appointed as Senior Counsel (NSW) and Queen's Counsel (TAS) in 1998. He served as a deputy president of the Medical Tribunal of NSW from 2003 to 2013, and has previously served as acting justice of the Supreme Court of NSW. Margaret Hunter OAM (BA 1991, LLB 1992) has been appointed as a Special Magistrate for a period of three years to assist in the management of the workload of the ACT Magistrates Court.Ms Hunter comes to the role of Special Magistrate with extensive experience as senior crown prosecutor of the ACT Director of Public Prosecutions and counsel assisting the coroner.ANU congratulates both The Hon Justice Stephen Walmsley and Margaret Hunter OAM on their respective appointments.
