Professor Paul Compston

Professor Paul Compston is leader in the field of advanced composite materials and is currently the ANU-lead for the ARC Centre for Automated Manufacture of Advanced composites. His research leadership is characterised by an ability to build relationships, engage and collaborate with national and international industries in new ways that benefit ANU. His collaborators include Boeing, Ford, Australian Institute of Sport, and Thermo Fisher. He also has a history of educational leadership roles at ANU, underpinned by a philosophy based on contextualization of learning. This is evidenced through work to design and integrate industry internships into ANU engineering curricula and through research and scholarship that led to national teaching awards for two of his PhD students. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia and a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

To the Academic Board, Professor Compston would bring perspectives that promote the levels of excellence in research and education that ANU expects, while at the same time enabling highly productive links with industry and global partners. This is a vital perspective for ANU as it attempts to diversify revenue streams and enrich the learning and research training experience for all students.
