Election to Council of two academic staff members

Election to Council of two Academic Staff Members

Council Elections 2022 - Academic Staff

Terms for current Council members - Professor Kate Reynolds and Professor Asmi Wood - as elected by ANU academic staff, will end on 29 September 2022.

It is necessary therefore to now hold an election in order to elect two members of the academic staff of the University to the ANU Council.

Members elected will hold office for a term of two years from 30 September 2022.

The ANU Council is the governing body of the University. The role of the ANU Council and its committees is to ensure effective overall governance and management of the University.  There are currently 15 positions on the ANU Council consisting of the Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor, members elected by the academic and professional staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as seven external members appointed by the Federal Minister for Education.  The Chair of the Academic Board is a non-voting member of the ANU Council.

INVITATION TO NOMINATE

The 2022 election of two members of Council by members of the academic staff of the University will be held in accordance with the Australian National University Act 1991, the Australian National University (Governance) Statute 2020 and the Governance Rule 2020.

Nominations will open on Monday 1 August 2022 in respect of the two academic staff places on Council.  Of these:

  • One must have duties with a predominant research focus ('the Academic staff (Institute) member")

  • one must have duties involving both teaching and research ("the Academic staff (Faculties) member").

To be eligible to nominate, in addition to the above requirements concerning research and teaching duties, you must have been paid a salary by the University on payday Thursday 21 July 2022, and on that date have been employed as a full-time or part-time standard or fixed term member of the academic staff of or above the grade of academic level A.

Nominations should be emailed to returning.officer@anu.edu.au.  A nomination must be signed by 2 persons eligible to vote in the election (other than the candidate) and must contain the signed consent of the candidate to the nomination.  Copies of the nomination form are provided at the link on this page.

Nominations will close strictly at 5pm on Friday 19 August 2022.  If there is more than one nomination for either of the positions, an electronic ballot will be held.  Should an election be required, voting links will be issued on 26 August 2022.
