University House has long enjoyed a reputation for providing a quiet, undisturbed and supportive environment in which postgraduate students can work and live. The central location is within easy walking distance of all the Faculties, Research Schools, libraries, sporting and other ANU facilities and the city centre.

University House provides single, self-catered accommodation for full time PhD students, which is separate from the Hotel. Sublet accommodation may also be available for visiting PhD students from other Universities who have the opportunity to spend time at the ANU for the purpose of thesis research/field work (subject to availability). The residents represent a truly international community, with students from a variety of countries studying in a multiplicity of academic disciplines.

The 61 rooms, comprising 58 single and 3 double, in the South Wing and Garden Wing are located on two floors, with shared bathroom facilities. The rooms are all fully furnished with central heating and direct dial telephones. Student residents share communal kitchen facilities and common rooms. The monthly rate includes fortnightly cleaning of the rooms (including a weekly change of linen and towels). The weekly Wednesday night House Dinner is also included in the rate and is a great opportunity for students to enjoy a three-course meal and drinks in the company of fellow students, members of the House and guests. Student residents have access to all member facilities of University House, such as the library (with daily newspapers), gardens, and discounts at the newly refurbished Fellows Bar and Cafe.
