Centre for Art History & Art Theory

  • Meet Art History and Curatorship, and Art Theory staff and students at the SOA Gallery and Foyer Gallery. Discuss the art of curating and the history and theory of visual and material culture


  • Dynamic Identity Design Workshops - Foyer Gallery entrance from 11am-1pm. Get involved in this hands on activity, generate a unique personal logo and take it home as a physical, laser cut object
  • Mitchell Whitelaw will be creating a data-sculpture representing 1 year of Canberra weather data, made from 365 last-cut slices. Watch this work grow over the course of the day!
  • Find out more about our new Design degree, and how the digital and the material are coming together to create exciting new design forms and practices

Folio Review

  • The School of Art offers prospective students an opportunity to have their folios review on open day. The purpose is to assist them in fine tuning their folios for interviews later in the year

Foundation Studies

  • Annual School of Art Drawing Prize on display in the Foyer Gallery. The Prize showcases student artworks from all disciplines in the ANU School of Art. Visit the foyer to view the works and winners


  • All day demonstrations for hot glass blowing, cold glass working, mould making and kiln forming glass and water jet cutting
  • 10am-1pm: Design a Goblet! Free entry. Children up to the age of 16 can enter and two winners will have their entry made by glass team. Judging takes place at 1pm (winners must be present)
  • 1pm-4pm: demonstrations of the making of the winning goblets designs

Gold & silversmithing

  • Jewellery Design Competition (ring, pendant or brooch). Winners drawn at 2pm and we will rapid prototype it for you!
  • Exhibition in the Gold & Silversmithing Gallery
  • Speak with students working on individual projects
  • Workshop tours on request
