What is the use of history? How can studying history inform your understanding of the world? What kinds of career will it prepare you for? This talk will explore how studying history at the ANU will prepare you for both a rewarding career and good citizenship.
Frank Bongiorno teaches in the School of History, in the College of Arts and Social Sciences. His courses include Debating Anzac, Australian Political History, Sexuality in Australian History and Making History, a course in which students reaching the end of their studies in history each complete an individual project of their own choice. His research is mainly in Australian history. He has authored or co-authored four books. The Sex Lives of Australians: A History appeared in 2012, and in a new edition in 2015. His most recent book, The Eighties: The Decade That Transformed Australia, appears in November. He is also co-editor of History Australia, the journal of the Australian Historical Association.
