  • Myint Zaw is a PhD student with the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific. He was recently awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize which honours grassroots environmental heroes from the world's six inhabited continents. 
  • Bal Kama is a PhD student at the ANU College of Law and was named 2016 Commonwealth Pacific Young Person of the Year and announced as the regional winner in the 2016 Commonwealth Youth Awards for Excellence in Development Work in London. 
  • Kathina Ali is doing her PhD at the ANU College of Medicine, Biology & Environment. She is the winner of the inaugural Grace Groom Memorial Scholarship and is working on a project with the Young and Well Collaborative Research Centre to build and evaluate an online virtual clinic for improving the mental health of university students.

ANU PhD graduates have launched careers with impact around the world. 

  • ANU Crawford School PhD graduate Yiping Huang was appointed to a top advisory role with the People's Bank of China in 2015. China's central bank is second only to the US Federal Reserve System in terms of overall financial assets. 
  • Sarojini Balkrishna recently joined global biopharmaceutical company AstraZeneca as medical science liaison after completing her PhD with the ANU Research School of Biology.

Our academics' expertise has sealed our status as Australia's leading research university, confirmed by our results in the latest Excellence in Research for Australia Report and QS World University Rankings.

  • Jagadish Chennupati from the ANU College of Physics and Mathematical Science was awarded Australia's highest honour in the 2016 Australia Day Honours - the Companion of the Order of Australia - for his services to physics and engineering. He has mentored 40 PhD students and 44 post-doctoral research fellows at ANU.

  1. Start drafting your Research Proposal. For ANU students, the ANU Academic Skills and Learning Centre can help you.
  2. Use the ANU Researchers Database to find an available supervisor within your discipline. Your prospective supervisor can also offer guidance on your Research Proposal. You can also look for research opportunities offered by ANU researchers, promoted through the Researchers Database or on the relevant ANU college websites.
  3. Contact the ANU college that covers the subject you are interested in.
  4. Apply for your PhD online. Apply for your PhD before 31 October if you're applying for a scholarship. You will submit your Research Proposal during your application, as well as any other requirements specified by the ANU college you are applying to.
