Applying as a domestic undergraduate student

Starting an undergraduate degree is an exciting moment in your life, and it will probably be the first time you study at university. This guide will help you find the right degree for you and submit an application.

Eligibility

Year 12 students

You will need to have an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) that meets the entry requirement for your preferred degree. If you don’t have an ATAR, you need to have a qualification that we can assess as equivalent. This might be a year 12 Certificate, Diploma, Associate Degree, or a pathway program.

Completed high school overseas

If you are a domestic student and you have completed your studies overseas, your qualification will be converted into an ATAR equivalent when you apply.

Applying from another university

If you have completed one year of study at a different university, your application will be assessed on the basis of your tertiary results.

English language requirement

All applicants must meet the ANU English Language Policy.

Step 1
Find your degree

Use our Programs & Courses website to explore our programs. You can search by degree title or subject area, and you can compare or combine two programs with our flexible double degree creator. So even if you haven’t decided what you want to study, you have a flexible option.

Some programs have additional entry requirements, such as prerequisite courses or assumed knowledge. Please check the program website for each degree to find out more information.

Step 2
Submit your application through UAC

You can only receive one offer in each round, so it is important to order your preferences wisely. You will receive an offer for your highest eligible preference, so make sure your first preference is the degree you most want to study. If you aren’t eligible for your first preference, your second preference will be assessed. One you receive an offer, your lower preferences will not be assessed.

Completing Australian Year 12

You will need to submit your application through the UAC.

UAC allows you to list up to nine preferences, but you can change these preferences through UAC after you submit your application, you can even change your preferences after you have received an offer. Your preferences will be assessed in the order you list, so make sure you list your preferences in the order you would most like to study.

You can also choose an flexible double degree and make your final decision when you receive an offer.

Studying outside Australia

If you are a domestic student completing a high school qualification outside Australia, you need to submit your application through UAC. You will receive a prompt to supply your information directly to UAC, including academic results and certificates.

Transferring to ANU from another university

If you have completed one or more years of tertiary study, you need to apply through UAC. If you receive and accept an offer, it is possible to apply for credit for your previous studies. Please note that credit assessment is at the discretion of the ANU college responsible for your degree, and it may not be possible to receive credit for all courses.

Already left school but completed year 12

If you are not completing year 12 this year, you are a non-school leaver. You will need to submit your application through UAC as a non-year 12 applicant. It doesn’t matter how long ago you completed your year 12 qualification, you can still apply through UAC. However, you may also wish to also consider our access pathway options for mature age applicants.

Step 3
Review your preferences

You can change your preferences through UAC. Login to your UAC account and follow the instructions.

Step 4
Receive an offer

All offers are made through UAC and are released in rounds. You can access your offers and correspondence by logging into your UAC account.

UAC will also send you an email to remind you to check your offers and correspondence. It is important that you provide an email address that you check regularly and you can easily access.
