Co-curricular or service requirement

The skills to succeed

The skills and knowledge you gain outside of the classroom is invaluable. At ANU you’ll have the opportunity to further develop these skills through a range of co-curricular activities such as sports, volunteering, internships and exchange opportunities. These types of experiences help you succeed at ANU and increase your employability upon graduation.

Therefore, in addition to meeting academic requirements, we have introduced a compulsory co-curricular or service requirement.

How it works

  • Only activities completed in Years 10, 11 or 12 (prior to applications closing) can be used to meet the co-curricular or service requirement.
  • The co-curricular or service requirement is a threshold which is either met or not met. We won’t rank you against other applicants based on the activities you complete.
  • The co-curricular or service requirement won’t modify your ATAR or academic rank. You must meet the co-curricular or service requirement and all other admission requirements for your preferred program.

Meeting the co-curricular or service requirement

The co-curricular or service schedule outlines activities completed outside of class requirements.   Each activity is mapped against seven skills:

  1. Community engagement
  2. Inclusion and awareness of diversity
  3. Communication
  4. Leadership
  5. Personal responsibility
  6. Teamwork
  7. Creative and critical thinking.

You have met the co-curricular or service requirement when you can demonstrate at least three of the seven skills. Use the calculator below to check your current status.

Providing supporting documentation

Documentation for each activity listed in your application must be provided. Supporting evidence can be any document that satisfies all of the following criteria:

  • it identifies you (the applicant, by full name) as having participated in the co-curricular or service activity
  • it identifies the activity (by name) you were involved in
  • it identifies the dates you were engaged in the activity and, where applicable, confirms you have meet the relevant commitment requirements as defined in the co-curricular or service schedule.

There may be some activities you don’t have documentation for. In this case, download the co-curricular or service activity declaration and have the form signed by someone who managed your activity.
