Fenner Hall

Fenner Hall is unique at ANU. For starters, it's our only residential hall not located on the ANU campus. Instead, it's nearby in the popular inner-north suburb of Braddon.

Residents at Fenner enjoy the best of both worlds. They revel in the independence that living off campus provides and the ability to separate university life from life in general; but they also reap the benefits of belonging to a tight-knit student community supported by a comprehensive pastoral care program.

Fenner's location offers easy access to public transport, enabling residents to cheaply and easily get around.  The Fenner bus runs every twenty minutes, ferrying residents to and from ANU. Residents can also bike or walk in to uni - it's a short trip either way.

Around the corner, Braddon's Lonsdale Street is arguably the heart of Canberra's café culture. It's oozing with everything from street food vendors and fancy restaurants, to casual pubs and swanky bars, to second-hand vintage and designer clothing shops.

An enterprising bunch, Fenner residents have negotiated exclusive deals and discounts at some of the most popular Lonsdale Street eateries.

When they're not eating out, you'll find Fenner residents gathered together in the communal kitchen chatting, preparing food, sharing recipes and teaching one another their favourite dishes and cuisines.

Residents come from across Australia and around the world, so it's easy to imagine the delicious aromas that drift through the hall at mealtimes. Having the freedom to choose when you eat is great too, especially for those trying to fit part-time work and other activities around study.

Grocery shopping, cooking meals and travelling to and from ANU help residents develop healthy routines that promote maturity, responsibility and balance.  That's a great basis for success at university and preparation for life beyond ANU.

As well as cultural diversity, Fenner has a good mix of undergraduate, mature-age and postgraduate students. Undergrads can find great mentors among the older, more experienced students - excellent complement to Fenner's rigorous academic support program.

Throughout the year, the Fenner community celebrates its diversity through an eclectic mix of social events.  Residents quip that no one needs to fit in at Fenner; Fenner fits around you. When you arrive, you'll feel immediately welcome and free to be yourself.

Also unique to Fenner is the non-residents program, which caters to former Fenner residents and ANU graduates. It seems that some people just can't get enough of life at Fenner Hall.
