Every three years, the Australian National University (ANU) may award a scholarship known as The Poppy Undergraduate Scholarship
The objectives of the scholarship are:
to help enable and encourage the recipient to continue their studies
to acknowledge the efforts and the courage of the recipient in pursuing the undergraduate study
to support and inspire the recipient to continue to contribute to their community; and
to provide financial support to a person of disadvantage and who is in financial need;
The second-ranked applicant for the Scholarship will also be recognised and will be offered the Poppy Book Award to support and encourage the student to purchase books needed for their studies.
Field of study
Sociology, Economics, Commerce or Law
The scholarship will be available every three years to a prospective ANU student who:
has been admitted to a single or combined undergraduate degree program at the ANU within the areas of Sociology, Economics, Commerce or Law;
has not obtained an undergraduate degree previously in Australia, New Zealand or overseas; and
is an Australian citizen, New Zealand Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or Permanent Humanitarian Visa Holder.
The Poppy Undergraduate Scholarship is valued at $5,000 per year. The duration of the scholarship will be a maximum of three years and paid in equal instalments at the beginning of each semester.
The Poppy Book Award is valued at $500 per year. The duration of the award will be a maximum of three years and paid in equal instalments at the beginning of each semeste
How to apply
Applications should be made via the University Admissions Centre (UAC). To be considered for the main round scholarship offers, applications will need to be submitted by the closing date stipulated by UAC.
The application shall also consist of a supporting statement by the student of no more than 300 words which details how the scholarship would enable them to take advantage of their studies, to enable them to reach their full potential and continue to support to the communities around them.
The supporting statement shall be submitted to ANU Access and Inclusion via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) prior to the scholarship closing date.
There is no separate application for the Poppy Book Award. Applicants for the Poppy Undergraduate Scholarship are automatically considered for the Poppy Book Award based on them meeting the eligibility criteria for that Scholarship.
This scholarship is offered biennially. It was offered for 2016 so will not be offered in 2017.
