Garrurru Undergraduate Indigenous Scholarship

Overview

The ANU College of Asia and the Pacific is delighted to invite Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders to apply for the Garrurru Indigenous Undergraduate Scholarship.

The scholarship provides its recipients an amount of $15 000 per annum. A defining feature of this scholarship is that the funds can be used for any number of study support purposes, for example; accommodation, textbooks, transport, childcare, course fees or other costs associated with undertaking their course or program of study. The scholarship money will be paid to students upon enrolment who may then choose to use the funds in whichever way will support their individual study purposes most appropriately.

Field of study

Asian Studies, International Security Studies, Asian and Pacific Languages and Pacific Studies.

Eligibility

All future and current students of ANU, who identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, can demonstrate excellent academic merit, and enrol in part time or full time study in any undergraduate course offered by the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific are eligible to apply.

For the purpose of the award, an undergraduate degree program includes:

  • single undergraduate degree program offered by the College; or
  • flexible double or vertical double undergraduate degree program offered by the College in partnership with another college of the ANU.

Applicants must have achieved an ATAR of 95.00 or above (no bonus points) in the year prior to receiving the scholarship, or two years' prior with no tertiary record.

Indigenous school leavers and mature age students are encouraged to apply.

Benefits

The scholarship provides students with support to the value of $15000 per annum for the duration of a standard undergraduate program (144 units, three years full time study). The recipient will also be provide with pastoral support from the Tjabal Centre, and/or the Manager, Education Services within the College. The award is paid in consultation with the recipient, which may include a bi-annual payment (after census date), direct tuition fee payment, or accommodation payment.
