Data61, the digital powerhouse formed by the merging of CSIRO's digital productivity business unit and National ICT Australia (NICTA), offers a world-class PhD experience to eligible PhD candidates working in data-related disciplines such as Analytics, Cyber-Physical Systems, Software and Computational Systems and Decision Sciences.
Students are supervised by world-leading CSIRO researchers and University academics on real-world projects that deliver significant research outcomes for the national benefit. Students are offered opportunities to push the fundamental boundaries in the ICT disciplines in which they work, participate in real industrial projects and do internships in Australia and overseas. Data61 encourages and supports entrepreneurial activities of our scholars, offering opportunities to join our start-ups or even create their own.

Prior to applying, candidates should ensure that they have:
made contact with a Data61 supervisor to discuss a research project and have written agreement from the Data61 researcher and university supervisor to supervise their PhD project
applied for admission or been accepted to study a PhD program at a university involved in the Data61 PhD program
the following documents ready to attach to their application: a current CV or resume, academic transcripts from all previous or current university studies, a research proposal, and copies of any published journal papers or other publications.
