Defence Science & Technology Group (DSTG) Undergraduate Scholarships for Female Students in Science & Engineering

Overview

The ANU and the Defence Science & Technology Group are offering two undergraduate scholarships for Female Students in Science & Engineering.  The scholarships aim to encourage high-performing female students to continue studying in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields to improve the representation of Women scientists and engineers.

Field of study

Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics.

Eligibility

The award is available to a current female student who:

  • is enrolled in an eligible program at ANU and has completed at least 96 units of study or equivalent; and
  • is an Australian citizens; and
  • is enrolled in an eligible Bachelor degree; and
  • has achieved a GPA of 5 (7 point scale) or above in the first 96 units of their Bachelor Degree program; and
  • applies for and maintains a baseline security clearance.

The eligible Bachelor degree programs are:

Bachelor of Advanced Computing, Bachelor of Advanced Computing (Research & Development), Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), Bachelor of Engineering (Research & Development) (Honours), Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Science (Advanced) (Honours), Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) or relevant Double Degrees.

Selection basis

Selection is on the basis of prior academic results as shown by the student's undergraduate academic transcript.  Other factors such as interest in a career in Defence, community leadership, involvement with extra-curricular activities and a demonstrated ability to collaborate with others may be taken into account through the selection process.  Preference may be given to a student from an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background

Benefits

The scholarship offers a stipend of $12,500 per annum for up to 2 years.  Scholarship recipients are provided mentoring by DSTG scientists for the duration of their studies and are offered the opportunity and encouraged to participate in DSTG's Summer Vacation Placement program.
