Welcome to SIGN!
The Student Information & Guidance Network
• To become a SIGN Mentor, you must have completed at least a semester of study at ANU and you will need to register to attend SIGN Training. This is held at the end of each academic year. Online registrations for SIGN Mentor Training are now open. Please Note: If you are a previous SIGN Mentor and you wish to Mentor again with the Program in 2006, you will need to re-register.
• Current SIGN Mentors wishing to mentor in the following academic year will be required to attend Refresher Training held before the next academic year commences.
Academia can be something of an alien environment when students first arrive - it can be hard to pick up all the subtle social cues, difficult to find your way around and sometimes the inhabitants seem to speak a strange language all of their own!
The Student Information & Guidance Network provides and opportunity for new students to link up with later year students and learn from their knowledge and experience of campus life.
New students can have a later year student mentor:
- help them find their way around
- hook them into student services
- help them get the hang of how to talk to a lecturer
- or point them in the right direction of good coffee!
By being in a SIGN mentor group, new students also get a chance to meet other newcomers to the ANU.
Our mentors are trained in group facilitation, communication and leadership skills. They are also aware of the many resources on campus, and know how best to handle their role as guide and mentor.
New Students interested in signing up for the program can find out more about SIGN. The program runs for the first term of each semester.
