Cycling is the most efficient way of travelling yet devised. It's fun too!
I'm a pretty fanatical cyclist, but I am not fanatical about going as fast as possible, or about climbing the biggest hills I can. I am fanatical about showing the potential for bicycles to be used for any transport need. This was largely inspired by my travels in China, where you can-and do-see anything being transported by bicycle. My best effort to date involved bringing two dead bicycles home from the dump, strapped to my rack. The 10km ride was all worth it when I passed an older guy on a bicycle who just looked at me and exclaimed "Holy shit!"
Bicycles are for everybody. Well nearly everybody. And, unlike cars, anybody can maintain and repair their bicycle as well. At the least you should learn to fix a puncture...
