1. Admission

1.1 Undergraduate Programs

Centre for Arab & Islamic StudiesANU processes most applications for undergraduate programs (see exceptions in 'Direct Applications' below) through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).  On-time applications for admission in Semester 1 2009 close on Friday 28 September 2007.  See Late Applications, below.

Apply through UAC if you:

  • have never been enrolled at ANU;
  • are a graduate of ANU but not currently enrolled;
  • are currently enrolled at ANU, but expect to complete degree requirements this year;
  • are a former ANU student who no longer holds a place in an undergraduate program; or
  • are applying for the LLB(G) program (even if you are currently enrolled at ANU).

Internal Transfers
If you are currently enrolled in an ANU degree program, or if you were on approved leave in 2008, and you wish to transfer to another ANU program for 2009, see Section 3 of this guide.

Direct Applications
Some applicants need to apply direct to the ANU Admissions Office:

  • international applicants (except those completing an Australian Year 12 in 2008 );
  • International applicants for the MBBS may apply directly to the ANU Admissions Office or via the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). Refer to http://medicalschool.anu.edu.au for relevant deadlines;;
  • applications for 4th Year Honours from applicants not currently enrolled at ANU;
  • non-award applicants, including the Australian National Internships Program.

Note: Applicants for non-award study must satisfy the University's standard admission requirements.  Admission is not guaranteed and restrictions on cross-institutional places are likely.

Applicants for cross-institutional enrolment should first contact the relevant College Office.

Late Applications
After 28 September 2008 it is still possible to apply late via UAC upon payment of a late fee.  Check the UAC Guide or website for closing dates and late fees.

Note: Only a few places are usually offered after the UAC Main Round.

Other Important Closing Dates
Applicants for programs in the Visual Arts, Digital Arts, Music or Arts (Music) can apply late via UAC until 31 October 2009 (because of audition/interview requirements).  If you wish to apply after 31 October 2009 please check with the ANU College of Arts & Social Sciences by contacting:

Semester 2 Applications/Admissions
Different application procedures apply for Semester 2 admission.  Contact the Admissions Office to confirm which programs have vacancies and how to apply.
