Undergraduate Scholarships

A Scholarship is awarded on the basis of past achievement with the expectation of future achievement. You must apply for a Scholarship.

ANU Hong Kong Alumni International Undergraduate Scholarship A full international undergraduate tuition scholarship may be available for a student from Hong Kong.
There has not yet been any award of this scholarship.
The Hong Kong Chapter of the ANU Alumni Association is under development and it is the Chapter which makes the recommendation of the scholar to the University.

ANU Honours Scholarship

The University offers up to 15 ANU Honours scholarships each year.

Value
In 2010 each scholarship will be worth $5,000.

Eligibility
You should be intending to enrol full-time at this University in the Honours Year of a program of study leading to the award of the degree of Bachelor with Honours OR in the final year of a program of study leading to the award of the degree of Bachelor with Honours where the honours component is an integral part of the final year (that is, Law, Engineering, Visual Arts and Music).

It is essential that you contact the relevant Honours Convenor for your discipline. If you are unsure who this is please contact the Student Office in the relevant College. You need to establish that you have or will have the academic qualifications for entry in to Honours and that the required resources will be available to you.

It is acknowledged that at this stage your acceptance into Honours may not yet be finalised. You do not need to wait for results before lodging an application. If you lodge an application and later become ineligible for Honours your application will be disregarded.

With the approval of the relevant College, you may commence the Honours Program in either first or second semester of the academic year.

International students are eligible to apply for ANU Honours Scholarships.

Subject to the approval of the University Awards Committee an ANU Honours Scholarship may be held concurrently with other scholarships and awards.

If you intend to commence your Honours in second semester 2010 you will need to apply in the above listed round. There is only one round of offers.

Please note, that you will need to provide a 200 word statement describing the research, professional or scholarly interests which you would intend to pursue while an Honours Scholar at the ANU. You will need to submit this statement either to the address below or email it to ug.schols@anu.edu.au. Your application will be incomplete without this statement.

ANU International Undergraduate Scholarship Each year The Australian National University offers a number of scholarships which cover tuition fees and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) premiums.
Applicants must be immediate school leavers and can apply for any program at the University.

Full tuition fee sponsorship for duration of chosen program, plus 100% cover of Overseas Student Health Cover.

Eligibility
The scholarship is open to any international student who has recently completed secondary school studies. Students who have commenced further studies are ineligible.

This scholarship is extremely competitive and is awarded to applicants who have achieved excellent results in their secondary school qualification.
Below is a brief guide of the minimum senior secondary scores expected for applicants to be seriously considered:

- All India Senior School Certificate (AISSC): All A1 in your best 4 externally examined subjects

- Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE): 17.5

- Indian School Certificate (ISC): 99

- International Baccaulaureate (IB): 41

- Sijil Tinggi Perskolahan Malaysia (STPM): 23

- UK or Singapore General Certificate of Education (GCE A Levels): 17

- University Admissions Index (UAI): 99.40

- USA Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT): 2326 approx.

Qualifications not listed above will also be considered.
Please note that scholarships are not guaranteed if you achieve the required level for your qualification.

Full Tuition Fee Sponsorship 100% of the OSHC Premium
ANU Malaysian Alumni Undergraduate Scholarship The Australian National University and the ANU Alumni Association Malaysia have scholarships on offer in 2009 for outstanding Malaysians to study at ANU, Australia's highest ranking University.

The scholarship covers tuition fees and includes an annual stipend for any Bachelor's degree (including Honours and combined degrees). Further information available from IDP Education Australia offices.

Full tuition fee sponsorship and AU$10,000 per annum.

Eligibility
The scholarships are open only to Malaysian citizens who normally reside in Malaysia. You should have completed upper secondary schooling in 2008.

Full fee sponsorship + $10,000 pa 100% of the Overseas Student Health Cover
ANU Medical School Rural Clinical Placement Scholarship Scholarships valued at $2,000 to assist with travel accommodation and living expenses for students undertaking their rural clinical placements will be available each year.
This scholarship is administered by the ANU Rural Clinical School and application information is available by emailing Rural Clinical School, or calling (02) 612 51306.

ANU National Orchestral Scholarship The ANU School of Music, in partnership with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra and the ACT Government, is offering a number of scholarships for students in music. The stipends will provide $3000 or $6000. More information and an application are available on the College of Arts and Social Sciences website: http://cass.anu.edu.au/students/scholarships_ug.php.

ANU Plant Science Scholarship There will be a number of scholarships available for students who have taken subjects or have life experience relevant to the study of Plant Science in their schooling. Preference may be given to students from rural and regional areas. Application process will be competitive and include an evaluation of ATAR, as well as a short essay on why you are interested in plant science.

Value
$6,500 per annum.

Duration
May be for a maximum of 8 normally consecutive academic semesters.

Retention
Scholars must maintain a minimum of a Distinction (70 per cent) average each semester.

Requirements:

To be eligible, you must:

  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or holder of an Australian permanent resident
  • have taken subjects or have life experience relevant to the study of Plant Science
  • be an immediate school leaver, or have taken a gap year and not enrolled in ay tertiary program during that time.

You may also be eligible if you have completed one or two semesters of an academic program either at ANU or another institution having taken relevant courses to Plant Sciences.

ANU Region Scholarship

The University offers a number of ANU Region Scholarships every year. Normally one scholarship for each Region and one At Large Scholarship are offered.

To be eligible, you must:

  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humantarian visa, and
  • be studying an Australian Year 12 or New Zealand NCEA or International Baccalaureate in 2009, or
  • completed Year 12 or equivalent in 2008 and did not enrol in a tertiary program in 2009; and
  • have put at least one ANU program as a preference through the Universities Admission Centre (NSW & ACT); and
  • have attended or be attending school in one of the following areas: Highlands; South-Coast; Wollongong; Yass, Goulburn and Queanbeyan; South-West and Western Slopes and Plains.

    If your school postcode falls within the following postcode groups, you are eligible to apply: 2500 - 2554; 2568 - 2599; 2619 - 2633; 2640 - 2681; 2700 - 2731; 2790 - 2820; 2830 - 2830; 2845 - 2850; 2864 - 2871; 2875 - 2877; or

  • be completing Year 12 in Victoria or New Zealand for consideration of the At Large Scholarship

Selection criteria

  • Awarded to eligible students who have achieved an ATAR score of 90.00 and above (no bonus points)

  • and can demonstrate involvement and leadership in school and/or community activities, supported by 2 referees.

    Referee reports: must be received by the closing date of 30 November 2009.

    $6,500 per year as a contribution towards accommodation, tuition and other education expenses for a maximum of 4 years.

    Accommodation

    Deferral
    This scholarship cannot be deferred. Successful applicants who defer their place at ANU in 2010 will have to re-apply for this scholarship for 2011. Please note that the requirements of this scholarship in 2011 may change.

    The scholarship is open to Singaporean citizens. You should have completed upper secondary schooling in 2008.

    ANU Thai Alumni Undergraduate Scholarship A full international undergraduate tuition scholarship is available for a student from Thailand.
    The scholarship meets the full tuition fees for any undergraduate Bachelor degree or combined Bachelor degree program provided the student continues to make satisfactory progress.

    Full tuition fee sponsorship for duration of the chosen program.

    Eligibility
    Thai citizens who have completed or expect to complete high school (or MS. 6) in 2008 in Thailand or elsewhere (but not in Australia) may apply.
