Undergraduate Scholarships for Students with Financial Need

A Scholarship is awarded on the basis of past achievement with the expectation of future achievement. You must apply for a Scholarship.

ANU Medical School Rural Clinical Placement Scholarship Scholarships valued at $2,000 to assist with travel accommodation and living expenses for students undertaking their rural clinical placements will be available each year.
This scholarship is administered by the ANU Rural Clinical School and application information is available by emailing Rural Clinical School, or calling (02) 612 51306.

Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship

Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarships

Several Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarships (CAS) are offered each year to assist students with general accommodation expenses whilst at University.

The value of the scholarship is $4,415 per annum (2009 rate), renewable for a maximum of eight semesters (four academic years).

Applicants shall be Australian citizens or hold a permanent Australian humanitarian visa

A student may only hold the scholarship on a part-time basis where exceptional circumstances prevent the student from studying full-time

To be eligible for a CAS in 2009, and to maintain eligibility for the maximum period of four years, an applicant must meet all of the following requirements:

  • be undertaking an undergraduate* course of study as a Commonwealth supported student, as defined in the Higher Education Support Act 2003; and
  • be an Australian citizen or the holder of a permanent humanitarian visa; and
  • meet and provide evidence of low socio-economic background; and
  • meet full-time student requirements; and
  • not hold a bachelor degree or higher level award* unless such award is a prerequisite to the current program of study; and
  • not have held a Commonwealth Scholarship for the maximum duration.

CAS applicants must have moved from a rural or regional Australian location with a population of less than 120,000, which is outside a State or Territory capital city in order to undertake tertiary education.

Eligibility is based on rural or regional residence and/or schooling, financial need and academic merit.

A successful applicant may not hold a CAS concurrently with a Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship (CECS).
A case must be made and permission requested, to hold a CAS concurrently with any other scholarship or award.


Semester 2 2009 offer round
Applications for Semester 2 2009 scholarships have now closed.

If you applied for a scholarship through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC), you will receive notification in the mail at the end of the first week of July.
You may also access your online application through the UAC website here.

If your application was successful, you will receive an ANU offer letter along with your UAC notification. All acceptance instructions are contained within this letter. You will need to complete, sign and date one copy of this letter and send it back to this Office at the address below. Please also include a recent Centrelink statement.

Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships

Several Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships (CECS) are offered each year to assist students with general expenses associated with studying at University.

The value of the scholarship is $2,207 per annum (2009 rate), renewable for a maximum of eight semesters (four academic years).

Applicants shall be Australian citizens or hold a permanent Australian humanitarian visa

A student may only hold the scholarship on a part-time basis where exceptional circumstances prevent the student from studying full-time

To be eligible for a CECS in 2009, and to maintain eligibility for the maximum period of four years, an applicant must meet all of the following requirements:

  • be undertaking an undergraduate* course of study as a Commonwealth supported student, as defined in the Higher Education Support Act 2003; and
  • be an Australian citizen or the holder of a permanent humanitarian visa; and
  • meet and provide evidence of low socio-economic background; and
  • meet full-time student requirements; and
  • not hold a bachelor degree or higher level award unless such award is a prerequisite to the current program of study; and
  • not have held a Commonwealth Learning Scholarship for the maximum duration.

Dickins Engineering Scholarship One scholarship of $2000 for award to applicants who are enrolled in the Fourth Year of Engineering, are studying in the area of or undertaking a project in Signal Processing and/or Telecommunications and can demonstrate financial need. If there is no applicant in the field specified the Selection Committee will select another field. $2,000 N/A
Joseph & Lindsay Croft Scholarship A scholarship for an Indigenous Australian student is available for award on the basis of financial need. TBA N/A
Mitchell Scholarship One scholarship of $1000 for award to a first year student of rural origin in the College of Business and Economics. $1,000 N/A
