PhD Scholarship Opportunities

The Australian National University (ANU) and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) have entered a collaborative arrangement to provide research opportunities to select high quality research students from the PRC.  Students selected as CSC scholarship recipients will be able to enrol in an ANU PhD programme and undertake full-time study for up to four years.  Between six and twelve scholarships may be awarded each year.  Applications are invited for commencement between October 2010 and 31 March 2011. Please note that if the PhD has a coursework component, the candidate must commence in Semester 1, 2011 (February).

ANU-CSC Scholarship holders may choose to undertake research in the following fields:

  • Applied Social Sciences and WTO-related Areas
  • Agriculture
  • Biotechnology
  • Communication and Information Technology
  • Energy and the Environment
  • Engineering and Manufacturing
  • Life Sciences and Public Health
  • Material Sciences and New Materials
  • Ocean Technology
  • Photonics
  • Strategic and Defence Studies
     

Eligibility for ANU-CSC Scholarships

In order to be eligible for the scholarships, candidates must:

  • Be citizens and permanent residents of PR China at the time of application
  • Not be currently working or studying abroad
  • Return to China at the end of the period of study
  • Satisfy the selection creteria set out by China Scholarship Council by completing the CSC Application Form and the Employer Reference Form
     

Application for Admission to the ANU

The arrangement between the ANU and CSC involves two independent but related processes. The first is Application for Admission to the ANU for study. The second is the CSC Scholarship Application which is dependent upon admission to the ANU.
Your CSC application will not be considered without an offer of admission from the ANU.

Key Dates for commencement in late 2010 to early 2011:

The ANU must recieve the full application (including English Language results) by 30 November 2009

The offer of Admission only from ANU to student by 1 March 2010

CSC receives full application (including offer of admission from ANU) by 20 March 2010. More information may be available on the CSC Website

Offer of scholarship from CSC in June/July 2010 (commence visa application process immediately)

Student arrives at ANU and commences the PhD between October 2010 and March 2011

Notes:

  • The ANU prefers online applications
  • Ensure that CSC Scholarship is noted in the 'Other Scholarship' section on page 1 of the form
  • Before submitting the application, arrange for your referees to complete the required information and submit it direct to the University
  • Indicate on your application your proposed supervisor or the Convernor who has supported your application
  • ANU-CSC Applicants must meet the ANU's English Language Requirements
  • An offer of admission to the ANU does not mean that applicants have been successful in obtaining a CSC Scholarship, merely that they have been assessed as suitable for the admission contingent of funding being made available
  • If a student is offered admission to the ANU they must follow the instructions as set out in their offer letter even though they will not know the outcome of their CSC scholarship application. ANU offers are time limited and must be replied to by the deadline date set out in the offer letter otherwise the offer will lapse
