YOUR INVITATION TO GRADUATE
In mid October 2008, the Examinations and Graduations Office will send an email package to
your ANU student email account (uxxxxxxx@anu.edu.au) inviting you to participate in December conferrals.
Students with an inactive ANU email address will receive a hard copy invitation via post. If you expect to graduate in December and have not received an invitation by the end of October, please contact the Examinations and Graduations Office immediately.
Types of Invitations
a) Conditional Invitation - your eligibility to graduate will depend on your results for the current semester. It is your responsibility to check ISIS and confirm your eligibility when results are released. If you think your eligibility is incorrect, please contact the academic area responsible for your award/s within two days of the release of results.
b) Approved Invitation - you have been assessed as eligible for your award.
Response to Invitation
You must respond to your invitation. If you do not respond, your award will NOT be conferred and you will NOT receive your testamur (degree certificate).
You need to select one of the following four options in your response:
1. I wish to attend my Graduation ceremony.
2. I wish to confer my award in absentia
(please allow up to 6 weeks to receive the award/s via mail. Please ensure your mailing address and contact phone number is correct in ISIS by 28th November).
3. I wish to defer my Graduation to July 2009 or December 2009.
4. I am a postgraduate student and I wish to transfer credit to a higher award.
Please respond to your invitation by no later than 14 November 2008.

TESTAMUR (CERTIFICATE)
The name on your Testamur
Your name will appear on your testamur and in the Conferring Program EXACTLY as it appears on the Invitation. The testamur is a legal document and as such, we can only print names that are your legal titles. We will not print nicknames, shortened or diminutive forms of your name, or initials and must have proof of your name before it can be added to your testamur.
If you would like the name on your testamur to appear differently to what is on your invitation
When responding to your invitation, you will be afforded the opportunity to confirm the names (and their order) to appear on your testamur. You can drop a name or reorder your names but you may not add or change a name.
For example, if you wish to have your middle name appear on your testamur,
but it is not on your invitation, you must provide a certified copy
of a legal document (example passport) showing this name.
Documents that are acceptable as proof of name change: passport, birth certificate, deed poll, naturalisation certificate.
Honours and Prizes
Honours levels (example First Class Honours) will not appear on the testamur, but will be listed on your official academic transcript. (Example, if you complete a Bachelor of Arts with 1st Class Honours, your testamur will read “Bachelor of Arts with Honours”).
Majors (example Chinese) and prizes will not be listed in the Conferring Program or on your testamur but will be included on your official academic transcript.
University medals not determined in time for presentation at the current conferring session can be presented at a later ceremony.
Transcript
All graduands will receive one (1) free copy of their academic transcript when they confer. To get a copy before the ceremony, or additional copies, you will need to order from the Division of the Registrar and Student Services. See the Transcripts information page for more details on how to order.

FOR 11 AND 12 DECEMBER CONFERRING OF AWARD CEREMONIES
Extra Guest Invitations
The number of guest invitations available depends on the number of graduands who are eligible to confer AFTER THE RELEASE OF FINAL RESULTS. We cannot confirm extra guest invitations before 2 December 2008. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes.
There is no guarantee that there will be extra seats available or that you will receive all the extra guest invitations you apply for. Your extra invitations may not necessarily be next to your original allocation.
Enter the extra guest invitation ballot, which opens on the 20th October 2008. The Examinations and Graduations Office will advise you of the outcome of the ballot via email on the 2nd December 2008.
Collecting your guest invitations
All guest invitations must be collected from the ANU Information Centre, Union Court between 9am and 5pm on the 8th, 9th and 10th December. We strongly
advise students to collect invitations prior to their graduation day.
If you cannot collect the guest invitations on these days, you may pick them
up from Llewellyn Hall at the Ticket Office on the day of your ceremony.
NO GUEST INVITATIONS WILL BE ISSUED IN THE LAST HALF HOUR PRIOR TO THE CEREMONY; NO INVITATIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE TICKET OFFICE BETWEEN 9.30-10.00am, 1.30-2.00pm AND 5.00-5.30pm. This is to ensure the ceremonies start on time. Thank you for your understanding.
To collect invitations you will need to show photo identification. If you are collecting guest invitations on behalf of a student, you must have written authorisation from that student with you when you collect the guest invitations. The authorisation should include the name and student number of the student graduating, the ceremony date and time and the full name of the person collecting the invitations.
SPECIAL SEATING ARRANGEMENTS
If you or any of your guests have a disability or other requirement
for special seating, please contact the Graduation Officer in writing as soon as possible (before 24 November 2008). We can not accomodate special requests on the day as
all seating is preallocated.
