TRANSFER TO GRADUATE

ROLL-OVER CREDIT TO HIGHER AWARD

APPLICATIONS

Most students will be automatically picked up and assessed by the academic area and DO NOT need to apply.

You do not need to apply for graduation if:

  • you are enrolled in the program you hope to graduate from in the December ceremony in Semester 2 2008.
  • you were enrolled in the program you hope to graduate from in Spring session 2007, Summer session 2008, Semester 1 2008 and Autumn session 2008.
  • you have previously been identified as eligible to graduate or approved to graduate but did not respond to the graduation invitation sent to you previously.
  • you have been approved to graduate and deferred the conferring of your award to the December 2008 ceremony.

You do need to apply for graduation by completing the application form if:

  • the last effective enrolment you had in the program that you wish to graduate from was prior to Spring session 2007 (this means that you were not enrolled in Spring session 2007, Summer session 2008, Semester 1 2008, Autumn session 2008 and/or Semester 2 2008).
  • you are an ANU student enrolled elsewhere on a Cross Institutional or Exchange basis. Students in this category wishing to graduate must also arrange to have an official transcript of results from the host institution forwarded to your home College together with a request to have the status recorded by 30 June for the July graduation session or by 1 November for the December graduation session.
  • you are a student in a combined program who wishes to confer only one of the degrees in that program.
  • you are a student who has applied to have credit transferred to your current program.

APPLICATION FORM – Please return to the Examinations and Graduation Office before the due date, 29 August 2008.

Students who are being considered for graduation will see a message in ISIS on 8 September 2008 for the December 2008 conferring of awards.

Students who have previously deferred their graduation and all PhD students will not see a message in ISIS, but will receive an invitation in late October 2008.

ELIGIBILITY

Your College administration will assess you as eligible for graduation on the following conditions:

  1. You have satisfied the academic requirements of the program. This is determined by the academic area and depends on all results being finalised before results are released.

If you disagree with your graduation status, you need to contact your College administration office. The Examinations and Graduations Office cannot change your eligibility status without written authorisation from the College administration or assess your eligibility for graduation.
  2. All financial obligations to the ANU (fees, fines, rent) have been met.  These must be paid by 14 November 2008.

ELIGIBILITY DETAILS

Your academic area will assess your eligibility to graduate based on your academic record including current enrolment as at 31 August. If you intend to drop a course after this date, you should check with your academic area beforehand to check if it will affect your eligibility to graduate.

Your academic area can assess you as "Not Eligible", "Approved", or as "Conditionally approved" upon you passing your currently enrolled courses. If you are assessed as "Approved" or "Conditionally Approved" we will send you an invitation in late October.

YOU ARE REQUIRED TO RETURN THE RESPONSE TO INVITATION BY 14 NOVEMBER 2008, EVEN IF YOU WANT THE AWARD MAILED TO YOU.

If you are assessed as;

  • "Conditionally Approved" - your eligibility to graduate will be confirmed by the University when results are released on 1 December. Confirmation will be posted on ISIS within five days of the release of results for currently enrolled students. You must check ISIS on 1 December at 12pm to confirm that you are eligible to graduate.

  • "Not Eligible" - students made "Not Eligible" due to late or unresolved grades will not be eligible to graduate in the current session. Please note that if you are appealing a grade which may affect the overall level of your award, you will not be permitted to graduate unless the appeal can be resolved at least five days before the first graduation ceremony. If any corrections are made to your graduation eligibility after results are released, your name and/or changes will not appear in the Conferring Program.
Students assessed as "Not Eligible" will be sent an email to their University ID email account. Notification of "Not Eligible" status will not be posted.

If your graduation status changes from "Conditional" to "Not Eligible" and you believe your academic area has made an error, you must contact your academic area immediately.  The Examinations and Graduations Office cannot change your eligibility status without written approval from the academic area. This approval must be received by noon on the 3rd December.

Students who are approved to graduate at release of results date, but did not respond to their invitation, will remain approved, but will not graduate and not receive their testamur until they apply to be conferred at a future graduation session.

TRANSFER TO ANOTHER PROGAM TO GRADUATE

Students who wish to take out an award for which they are not currently enrolled (e.g. a student enrolled in a four-year Asian Studies program who wishes to take out the three-year Bachelor of Asian Studies) must transfer to the correct program at the commencement of the semester preceding the graduation semester or graduate at a later session. Please refer to Student Enrolment and Administrative Procedures Guide for exact closing dates regarding program transfers.

ROLL-OVER GRADUATE COURSEWORK PROGRAMS
(example: Graduate Diplomas to Masters)

If you are enrolled in a 'roll-over' program which can be articulated to a higher award you must inform your program administrator by 31 March/31 August if you do wish to continue to the higher award. Otherwise your administrator will assume you are not articulating and will assess your eligibility for conferral of the lower award. If you receive an invitation to have the lower award conferred and you do not wish to graduate, you should tick option 4 on the Response to Invitation "I do not wish to have this award conferred, I intend to transfer the credit to a higher award".
