ANU Certified Documents

Why provide certified documents online?

In July 2010 ANU will commence providing formal University documents to graduates in a secure electronic format via Digitary®. Using the Digitary® system, graduates may receive Academic Transcripts, Australian Higher Education Graduation Statements and Testamurs electronically in addition to the traditional paper format. Furthermore, the system allows third parties (eg employers, institutions etc.), to verify the authenticity of the documents via a secure website hosted at ANU.

ANU is the first university in Australia to adopt this technology, and joins a growing list of international institutions already using the system including: Cambridge University, The University of Manchester and the University of Kent.

The simple answer is: to make our graduate’s qualifications and achievements more portable.

You can include a link to this web page when applying for positions. Potential employers will be able to verify your Graduation documents for the time defined by you and by your authorisation.

Application processes are increasingly moving into the digital realm. With the Digitary® system at ANU, you will be able to provide a hyperlink (url) with any electronic application instead of attaching scanned documents and following them up with originals. The benefits are particularly great when submitting multiple applications or overseas applications.

For hardcopy applications you will be able to print a hardcopy of your electronic documents. Printed versions refer to instructions on how to verify the document’s authenticity electronically, avoiding the need to send an original or certified paper copy.

A single electronic copy of a document stored on a secure server avoids the need for multiple original or certified copies, saving time, inconvenience, paper and money.

How secure is it?

Who is eligible?

Digitary® documents are issued using Advanced Electronic Signatures that are compliant with EU Digital Signatures Directive 1999/93/EC and national enacting legislation. Digitary documents are both legally-valid and tamper-evident.

The Digitary® system gives complete control over your electronic documents to you. Through the simple online interface you will be able to elect to share your documents with as many or as few people as you like, and even put an expiry date on the document’s availability to third parties if required.

Your documents can only be accessed by people you authorise.

Initially, secure electronic academic documents will be issued to students graduating from July 2010.

Graduates will be able to access their secure documents using their Student ID and ISIS password for one month after July graduations and three months after December graduations. After this time, their password and access to their email will expire. To obtain a new password and contact email, you should contact the Alumni Office to create an alumni email address and obtain a new password or go to http://www.anu.edu.au/alumni/index.php.
