Australian citizens, permanent humanitarian visa holders

Australian citizens and holders of permanent humanitarian visas are eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place at the ANU in which the Commonwealth Government will partially subsidise the cost of your tuition. You are required to pay a contribution towards your fees, which you can do in one of three ways:

  1. pay your entire student contribution up-front and receive a 20% discount.
  2. pay part of your student contribution up-front (minimum payment of $500.00) and receive a 20% discount on the amount paid, and receive a government loan (called HECS-HELP) for the remainder of the contribution, which you defer paying back through the tax system until you start to earn a salary above the repayment threshold.
  3. receive a government loan (called HECS-HELP) for your entire student contribution, which you defer paying back through the tax system until you start to earn a salary above the repayment threshold.

Read the fact sheet for more information.

Fact Sheet 2009

Commencing students in this tuition fee category will be sent a booklet on Information for Commonwealth Supported Students, in their offer pack. When enrolling through ISIS, you will need to complete an electronic Commonwealth Assistance Form ('e-CAF'). To defer payment of all or part of your student contribution, you will also need to supply your Tax File Number (TFN).Please note if you do not supply your TFN, or a Certificate of application for a TFN you will not be able to receive Commonwealth Assistance funding.

An invoice will be emailed to all undergraduate students each semester setting out your fee contribution liability. If you have chosen to defer part or all of your liability, and you have provided your TFN, your liability will be deferred automatically after the course census date.

Students who wish to pay their contribution up front or partially upfront must do so by the due date. Partial payments will not be accepted after the due date.

Students who wish to defer paying their contribution and instead take the HECS-HELP loan will have their student contribution amount notified to the Australian Taxation Office. Within 28 days of the census date, a Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN) will be made available in ISIS for download. The CAN is under the menu and is called an eCAN. The CAN shows how much your HECS-HELP loan is for. You should keep a copy of your CAN for taxation purposes.
