Enrolling in a research program

The Enrolments Office is a significant resource to research students. The Enrolments Office is responsible for your initial and ongoing enrolment in your program, administering variations to your enrolment and a source of advice on Scholarships, University rules and policies, and relevant Commonwealth legislation.

Initial enrolment

You should contact your proposed supervisor and your Department about any local induction procedures.

To enrol, you will need to telephone to make an appointment with the Enrolment Officer mentioned in your letter of offer. You will need to bring to the appointment the following:

  • original transcripts of your academic record which include your most recent results (if not previously provided)
  • your passport, if you are an International Student, or proof of citizenship (birth certificate or passport) for domestic students
  • any other documents referred to in the offer letter
  • receipts for claiming travel and removal expenses, if you have a scholarship which reimburses these costs
  • bank account details including the branch number (BSB number - available from your bank) if you have a scholarship.

During your enrolment interview you will need to complete a number of forms and check that the personal and contact information the University holds for you is correct.

After the appointment, you should log onto the Interactive Student Information Services system (ISIS) to check your enrolment and fees details are correct. It takes 24 hours to update your ISIS account, so variations will not be registered until 24 hours after they are made. You will also need to complete a statistical checklist which provides information to the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR).

Once you are enrolled, your local area will write to you to advise you of your supervisory panel and confirm your program details.

If you have been awarded a stipend scholarship, your scholarship and account details will be lodged with the pay office, but please be aware that, depending on the pay cycle, it may take up to three weeks for your first payment to be made.

Continuing enrolment

Late in each academic year, research students will automatically be enrolled for the following year. Please check ISIS in early January of each year to ensure that your enrolment is correct.
