Graduate Certificate in Commercialisation

Purpose:

The Australian National University will present a new award program in research commercialisation and innovation training from second semester 2008. The objectives of the program are to enhance the career outcomes of Higher Degree Research students by equipping them with the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to bring research-based ideas, inventions and innovations to market, and to contribute to Australia's economic, social and environmental wellbeing through commercial benefits generated from enhanced delivery of innovative research-based products and services. The program is being supported by the Commonwealth Government.

Scholarships:

Domestic Scholarships:

There will be a number of scholarships available for domestic students, funded by the Commonwealth Government. The scholarship covers the tuition fees for the Graduate Certificate and provides a living allowance at the Australian Postgraduate Award rate, plus $2500, for the six-month period of the program. PhD students applying for a domestic scholarship must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident of Australia or a New Zealand citizen.

Eligibility

To be eligible applicants must:

  • be currently enrolled in a PhD or Masters by Research program at the ANU;
  • not have previously completed any commercialisation training equivalent to the program offering;
  • agree to undertake the program full-time in second semester 2008. (Deferment will not be possible.) Students admitted into the Graduate Certificate in Commercialisation program will not be entitled to apply for leave of absence from the program.
  • Applicants will need to suspend their PhD or Masters by Research candidature whilst they undertake the graduate certificate and may not be:

  • in full-time employment during the period of the Scholarship, or
  • concurrently enrolled in any other award program.
  • The CTS scholarship can be terminated on the grounds of misconduct, unsatisfactory performance or if the candidate completely withdraws from their PhD or Masters by Research program.

    Before applying, domestic applicants should verify that they will not breach the conditions of any scholarship they hold by suspending their PhD or Masters by Research candidature to attend the CTS program.

    Selection Criteria:

    A Selection Committee will award the Scholarships to the candidates who, in its opinion, best demonstrates how:

    • their career that will utilise the skills, knowledge and experience gained by completing the Graduate Certificate program;
    • Supervisors will be asked to confirm that the candidate:

    • is making satisfactory progress toward timely completion of their Higher Degree Research Program; and
    • that the Graduate Certificate will not impede progress on either their research or the preparation of their thesis.
