COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIP AND FELLOWSHIP PLAN-UK:  2007 AWARDS

The following information should be read in conjunction with, and provides supplementary information to, the information available on the IDP website through the link below.

The Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan is designed to provide opportunities for Commonwealth students to pursue advanced programs in other Commonwealth countries.  The scholarships are intended for men and women of high intellectual promise who may be expected to make a significant contribution to life in their own countries on their return from study overseas.  Awards are made to men and women who are capable of reaching the highest standard of intellectual achievement.

Terms of Award

Scholarships are tenable in universities and other appropriate institutions in the United Kingdom for not less than one nor more than three years depending on the program of study, and are intended to cover the expenses of travel, living and study during the period of tenure.
Awards are to obtain one degree and funding will not be extended to enable candidates to complete an additional or higher qualification than that for which the selection was made.  Scholarships are available for full time study only.

Field

Normally any field offered in universities in the country of tenure.

Eligibility

Open to Commonwealth citizens, refugees, or British protected persons permanently resident in a Commonwealth country other than the UK.  Competition for these awards is very intense, and ANU is permitted to nominate no more than ten applicants to the Australia-wide IDP Nominating Committee, which is responsible for determining final recommendations from Australia to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK.  The Commission will make the final selection early in the New Year. Because of the competitiveness of these awards, applicants with a primary degree only, or who are about to complete a primary degree, will only be considered for the United Kingdom if they have obtained first class honours or have the prospect of a result at that level.  Grades obtained in all years of study are taken into account and only those with very strong academic records will be competitive.

Awards are for either a one or two year Master or equivalent degree, or a three year program of study leading to a PhD or equivalent degree. In certain circumstances, the Commonwealth Commission in the UK may offer a single-year award to enable a scholar to pursue studies in Britain towards a doctoral degree at his/her home university.

Candidates wishing to undertake postgraduate study in Business, Management, or related fields should have taken the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) before applying.  Economics departments may also require candidates, before entry, to undertake the Princeton Graduate Record Examination (GRE).

CLOSING DATE:            Friday 13 October 2006 with the Research Students Office

Late Applications will not be accepted
