Welcome
to the third issue of the Research Office E-newsletter for 2008. Colleges
and College Research Managers will now be strongly focused on ARC Discovery
and NHMRC applications, the ANU’s major sources of
external funding. I wish you well in undertaking the difficult but important
job of coordinating the applications and ensuring that the ANU will obtain
the best results possible from the grant rounds. While
the emphasis is currently on the application rounds, please remember that ARC
applicants who are not up to date with their progress and final reports may
be ruled ineligible. At this stage
there is a considerable number of outstanding ARC
progress reports and is important that these be provided to the ARC as soon
as possible. While
the RQF is not proceeding in its current form, could you please remind
academic staff in your area that the ANU is still collecting information on
our research performance and that information on publications need to
continue to be collected. In particular it is important that academic staff
do not delete data which they have already entered into ARIES in the belief
that it is no longer needed. The
development of the Recombinant DNA module of ARIES is currently under
development. This module will assist the ANU in meeting the Government’s
requirement under Gene Technology legislation. After this module is completed work is
planned to begin on a Commercialisation module followed by an upgrade to the
Grants and Contracts module. If you
haven’t already done so, suggestions for improvements to the Grants and
Contracts module should be sent to the RO BSG through your College Research
Manager. The
ANU’s annual Retreat is taking place this week at
Bowral. The Retreat will help set many
of the ANU’s strategies for 2008 and beyond. Research and research performance will
feature prominently on the agenda. |
