Welcome to this fortnight's Research Office Newsletter.

The ARC has now announced the outcomes of Round 2 of 2008 Linkage Projects with the ANU receiving eight Linkage Project grants in the Round.  Coupled with the 21 applications that we have submitted for the 2009 Linkage Round 1, this is an excellent result and an indication of the ANU's greater involvement with Linkage Projects.  Given the importance of this scheme I would like to thank everyone involved in achieving these outcomes.  We also had a pleasing increase in our involvement in the ARC Linkage International grant round.  Hopefully we will see similar interest in the forthcoming NHMRC rounds.

The release of the ERA consultation paper has been delayed, with the ARC postponing its briefing sessions scheduled for this week. I will let you know when the consultation paper has been released.

Future Research Leaders Program (FRLP)

We have received the results of an evaluation process, with some very positive feedback on the FRLP trials that were held in April. Participants particularly enjoyed the interactive style of the sessions, taking advantage of networking with researchers at a similar level to themselves, and the informative presentations given by more senior researchers.

We will continue rolling out FRLP modules over June and July, with the following on offer:

Intellectual Property & Commercialisation

Hosted by the Office of Commercialisation

Workshop to be held on Friday June 13

Financial, Resource and Risk Management

Hosted by Finance & Business Services

Workshop to be held on Wednesday July 2

Managing and Leading People in a Research Context

Hosted by Human Resources Staff Development Branch

Workshop to be held Tuesday July 22

To confirm interest for any of the modules, or for further information, please email Tom Hammond. Further information regarding the FRLP at the ANU can be accessed here.

NEWS & NOTICES

ARC Schemes

2008 ANU Linkage Pilot Project Fund (Round 1)
The Vice-Chancellor is offering another round of the Linkage Pilot project funding scheme.

This internal fund seeks to identify ANU researchers who are able to demonstrate a potentially viable pilot project involving one or more industry partners which can then be developed to apply for ARC Linkage Project funding within the next year.

Mentoring support will be available, both for the researchers and their local area administrators, to ensure that the budding applications have the greatest internal support possible for success with the ARC.

The guiding principles for the applicants will be:

1. To develop collaborative research alliances with organisations outside the University;

2. To encourage innovative research;

3. To enhance the ANU’s industry-oriented research, and our ability to provide a fertile training ground for future researchers and industry leaders.

Funding Guidelines and application form are available at : http://www.anu.edu.au/ro/restrict/Linkage_Pilot.php

Applications are open from 2 June 2008 to 1 July 2008.

For further information regarding the Scheme, please see : http://www.anu.edu.au/ro/restrict/Linkage_Pilot.php

College Research Managers/Administrators please contact your College Contact in the Office of Sponsored Research for further information and assistance.
