The University’s Research Committee meets five times a year with the next meeting on Thursday 26 July.  Committee membership includes a representative from each College as well as research student, general staff, and senior and early career researcher representatives.  The Committee enables Colleges to have input into research issues at the University-level as well as serving as an important source of information for Colleges.  Topics to be discussed at the next meeting include Principles in Establishing and Administering Centres, Draft Principles for a Policy on Commercialisation, Common Research Infrastructure Services, and Research Infrastructure Access Policy as well as the Reports of the Animal and Human Ethics Committees.  Information on the Committee and its deliberations can be found at http://info.anu.edu.au/OVC/Committees/060PP_Research/index.asp and from your College representative.

I am pleased to advise that Karen Burke has been confirmed as the Director of the Office of Sponsored Research. I am sure you will all join with me in congratulating Karen on her appointment.  Karen will continue to work closely with College research management staff involved in grants and research contracts.

The August Research Development Forum will focus on research contracts with the Legal Office leading a discussion on issues arising from reviewing contracts.  For staff who review research contracts, this will be your opportunity to discuss with the Legal Office the difficult issues that you have come across.
