From the Director of the Research Office

Welcome to this fortnight's Research Office Newsletter.

Both the ARC and NHMRC announced the results of the bulk of their 2009 grant rounds this week. My congratulations to all successful applicants and my thanks to the research managers across the University who assisted with the applications.  Particularly pleasing was the resurgence in the ANU's Linkage Projects Scheme, due no doubt in part to the extra effort in promoting the Scheme and the Linkage Pilot Scheme.

The Research Office will be hosting an afternoon tea to celebrate the ARC results at 3 pm tomorrow Friday 17 October at the Research Office.  All research managers are welcome.

The next few months will be busy times for research managers with the 2009 results being announced, the new ARC Fellowship schemes and the preparation for the 2010 funding rounds.

I also congratulate Bennett MacDonald from the Fenner School who received the 'Sugar R&D Corporation Award' as part of the DAFF 2008 Australian Agricultural Industries Young Innovators and Scientists Awards which aim to help young Australians with innovative plans to boost the competitiveness of Australia's rural industries.

Karen Jackson has now left the Office of Commercialisation to head the Colleges of Sciences Research Office.  My congratulations to Karen and I wish her every success in her new role.  The Research Office is currently advertising to fill Karen's former position in the OC.
