Welcome to this fortnight's Research Office Newsletter.

I would like to express my appreciation to the College research managers who have been working on the ARC LIEF applications, which close this week, and the ARC Linkage Projects and Linkage International. These Schemes are all important to the ANU's research effort.

I would also like to acknowledge the work of the publication officers in the Colleges who have been providing ORMD with details of their College research publications for 2007 for the HERDC Collection, a collection which is vital to ANU's research reputation and contributes significant funding through the Research Block Grants. Margaret Richardson and Alanah McCann are currently working hard at finalising the collection by the 30 June due date.

F&BS has recently begun working on the HERDC Finance collection of 2007 research income. Their work has been delayed by the late release by DIISR of the final reporting requirements and they are seeking the cooperation of all Colleges in helping them to meet the DIISR deadline of 30 June. Given the importance of the HERDC Collection to the ANU and our research funding, your cooperation in providing them with assistance in meeting this deadline is very much appreciated.

ANU Career Development Fair

The Research Office will have a presence at the upcoming Careers Development Fair, where we will showcase the range of training and development services offered across the Research Office.

The Careers Development Fair is for all ANU staff and is run by the Staff Development Branch of Human Resources, in conjunction with National Career Development Week 2008. It will be held at Melville Hall from 12–2pm, Wednesday 4th of June.

Future Research Leaders Program (FRLP)

During April, we saw successful implementation of the trial phase of the Future Research Leaders program, with academic staff attending modules focusing on research project commencement and collaboration, research integrity compliance, and an introduction to the research environment at the ANU. We will continue rolling out FRLP modules over June and July, with the following on offer:

Intellectual Property & Commercialisation

Hosted by the Office of Commercialisation

Workshop to be held on Friday June 13

Financial, Resource and Risk Management

Hosted by Finance & Business Services

Workshop to be held on Wednesday July 2

Managing and Leading People in a Research Context

Hosted by Human Resources Staff Development Branch

Workshop to be held Tuesday July 22

The modules are aimed at early to mid career research staff, although all staff are eligible to attend. There is no cost involved in the training and each module stands alone, and does not require the completion of other modules.

To confirm interest for any of the modules, or for further information, please email Tom Hammond.
Further information regarding the FRLP at the ANU can be accessed
here.

It would be appreciated if this information could be circulated through college networks, to reach all academic staff who may be interested.
