ARC Linkage International (LX) - Fellowships & Social Sciences Collaboration Funding Commencing in 2009

The ARC's Linkage International scheme encourages networks and collaborations between researchers, research teams and research centres of excellence in Australia and overseas. Researchers awarded Linkage International funding may participate in national and international exchanges between research organisations.

The scheme provides the following types of support:

• ARC International Fellowships are available for outstanding postdoctoral, research and senior research fellows to work in Australian or overseas organisations for periods of up to 12 months.
• Internationally Coordinated Initiatives (ICI) funding is available occasionally from the ARC, in association with one or more research funding agencies overseas, to research partners in international collaborative projects.

Applications for funding under Linkage International Awards and Internationally Coordinated Initiatives may be processed in rounds throughout the year. Applications for ARC International Fellowships are processed once a year.

Linkage International supports the movement of researchers between eligible Australian research organisations and centres of research excellence overseas, and to foster collaboration and networking between Australia-based and overseas researchers.

The objectives of Linkage International are:

• build collaborations among researchers, research teams and/or research centres of excellence in Australia and overseas;
• generate opportunities for researchers to participate in leading-edge international research networks and strengthen their international research experience;
• build Australian research capability by enhancing existing and developing new collaborations among researchers;
• develop innovative modes of international collaboration; and/or
• foster participation in global innovation networks.
