Pre – Application Considerations

Investigators and Research Administrators in College Research Offices should be aware of research management practice at ANU, and be conversant with the following policies relating to the conduct and management of research activity at ANU.

Investigators
Investigators should consider the following requirements and procedures prior to applying for research funding:

  • Meet with Head/Academic Supervisor and Research Office Contact: to discuss the infrastructure, facilities, staffing, and funding implications of your proposed funding application.
  • Ethics Clearances: Does your proposed research entail the use of animal or human subjects or of Recombinant DNA? Many funding agencies will not release funds until appropriate ethical clearances have been obtained. You should start thinking about any clearances that may be required before you apply for funding. Discuss this with your College Research Office.
  • Early Career Researchers (ECRs): Issues specific to ECR’s including; when/where to find funding; presenting your CV/Publications list/track record, and; how to write a competitive funding application.
