ANU Major Equipment Grants

The Sub-Committee on Major Equipment Expenditure (MEC) invites proposals for the purchase of large equipment for research purposes in the following categories:

• Providing financial support for ANU Led ARC- Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities Program (LIEF) proposals

• Providing financial support for Externally Led ARC- Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities Program (LIEF) proposals

• Providing financial support for ANU researchers submitting Major Equipment proposals that fall outside the ARC- Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities Program (LIEF). Applications can be made to purchase research Library Collections.

• The MEC will consider eligible proposals for funding equipment costing between $50,000 and $500,000.

• Bids for library collections will not be bound by the $50,000 lower limit, but requests should be linked to specific areas of research.

The MEC will not normally consider supplementing applicants’ bids with MEC funds if they have access to the Mass Spectrometer (MS), Electron Microscopy (EM) or Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Reserve funds.
MEC interacts with the committees responsible for the Mass Spectrometer (MS), Electron Microscopy (EM) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Reserve funds to ensure the most effective and efficient use of University funding resources.

MEC Review

A review of The Major Equipment Committee and Major Equipment Grant Scheme was undertaken in mid 2009.
A public forum was held in the JCSMR Finkel theatre on Tuesday 20 May 2009 between 12:30 – 1:30 pm.
