Resources for Applying
Before applying researchers should familiarise themselves with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research Involving Humans (2007). The purpose of this Statement is to provide a national reference point for ethical consideration relevant to all research involving humans. Researchers can then complete their protocol application in ARIES. See below for guidance on particular issues, and for further assistance with applications please contact the Ethics Office.

Information Sheets & Consent Forms
NB A Participant Information Sheet is required for every research project.
The purpose of this Information sheet is to explain the research, what will be asked of participants, and the safeguards in place for them. The Information sheet should be brief, written in plain language, and provide sufficient detail to allow an informed decision by the participant on whether to take part in the research project or not.
The document below is a guide. It outlines what is required, but researchers should tailor and add material to suit their research project. If the research is being conducted in partnership with another agency, the guidelines of that agency relating to participant information should be melded with these guidelines.
For most projects a single Participant Information sheet suffices. However, more complex projects can involve groups of participants (for example, adults and children; nurses and patients or Focus Groups) with differing inputs. In these types of research projects, separate Information sheets may be required for each group.
(The Participant Information sheet is to be on LETTERHEAD paper displaying full details of the organisation ie the ANU)
PLEASE NOTE: If you are using a Consent form, the information provided on the Consent form should be a mirror image of the information on the Information Sheet, except of course, there is no need for contact details to be provided on the Consent form as this form is given back to the researcher by the participant.
