Animal Experimentation at the ANU

The ANU’s Animal Experimentation Ethics Committee (AEEC) monitors and regulates the use of animals in research and teaching carried out at the ANU, and ensures that all animal usage conforms to National guidelines and standards. The National Health and Medical Research Council's Animal Welfare Committee is responsible for developing the national policy and guidelines relevant to the welfare of animals used for research purposes. We also refer to the Victorian Code of Practice for the Housing and Care of Laboratory Mice, Rats, Guinea Pigs and Rabbits.

If your research involves animals, you must receive approval from the AEEC before you can commence. Please contact our Office if you have any queries.

Submit an ANNUAL ANIMAL USAGE report at the end of every calendar year.
Submit a STUDY EXPIRY/DISCONTINUATION report at the end of your research or by the expiry date of your ethics protocol.
