Individual Project
Your can choose an individual project offered by a suitably-qualified person
in:the Physics Department;
The Research School of Physical
Sciences and Engineering;The
Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics;
The Research School of Earth Sciences;
or The Biophysics Research
Group.
To choose an individual project, you can either:
- visit the
web site http://www.anu.edu.au/Physics/new/Research_Topics/; or
- contact a prospective supervisor from one
of the above areas. You should find him/her very approachable and
enthusiastic to help you choose a suitable project.
If you wish to do an individual project, you need to:
- find a prospective supervisor and discuss with him or her the
possibilities of doing either an experimental, numerical or theoretical research
project under their guidance;
- summarize the project aims and expected outcomes in a one
page abstract, which also specifies the expected duration of the project and
the skills required or any course prerequisites;
- negotiate an appropriate assessment scheme
with your propective supervisor;
- and seek approval from the course coordinator before
enrolling.
Students doing an individual project, should:
- record their activities in a log book, which records the details
of the work and when it was done;
- maintain a diary, which records their regular meetings with their
supervisors(this should record the date and time of the meetings and
what was discussed).
- Attend regular meetings with supervisor to discuss progress. Supervisor
should examine and sign log book and diary;
- Attend regular meetings with course coordinator to summarize progress
- write a 20-page report on the project on the completion of the work;
- present either a seminar or attend an oral examination designed to
ascertain his/her understanding of the work and provide an assessment of
his/her achievements.
Your choice of Individual Project must be approved by the course coordinator
before enroloment in the course.
