ANU Strategic Plan

The Council approved the final draft of the ANU Strategic Plan, which will take us forward to 2020. The Plan articulates a clear vision for the University, focused on change, excellence and engagement. It follows many months of discussions between Council members and the University Executive, and a process of extensive consultation across the University community. The ANU Strategic Plan will be launched formally at the State of the University address to be delivered by the Vice-Chancellor on 9 February 2017.

Union Court redevelopment - Pop-up Village

The Council discussed progress on the revitalisation of Union Court and University Avenue. In an exciting prelude to the commencement of construction, Council has approved the building of a Pop-up Village on University Avenue which will provide the ANU community with continued access to everyday needs throughout the redevelopment construction, and provide a taste of what is to come when the long-term redevelopment is complete.

ANU research and innovation

The strategic discussion topic for the December meeting of Council was "ANU research and innovation". Council received a presentation from the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), with discussion focussed on the drivers for future success - revenue diversity, partnering with industry and business, performance culture and standards and the redeployment of funds and support for strategic opportunities.

CAP CASS Governance Project

The Council received a progress update on the CAP CASS Governance Project, which seeks to secure the pre-eminence of the CAP and CASS nationally and internationally, and position them to overcome the resourcing challenges facing HASS disciplines. It also aims to foster a uniformly excellent and supportive student experience in both Colleges, and to reaffirm the ANU as a leader in HASS education and training. Throughout the first year (2016), the project has concentrated on three key areas:

  1. Curriculum design and planning
  2. The student experience and student services delivery
  3. Staff engagement and collaborations

Regulatory Institutions Network - Name change

Council has approved the renaming of the Regulatory Institutions Network, a small, research-intensive interdisciplinary School within the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific, to the School of Regulation and Global Governance. The proposed name change will enhance the School's capacity for national and international engagement make clearer its status as a School within the University's unit structure.
