Meet Pamela (Pam) Lourandos, the University's new Events and Public Lectures Coordinator.
Pam, can you tell us what you do?
I work within Strategic Communications and Public Affairs (SCAPA) and I am in charge of coordinating the University's major events program as well as public lectures series. We also have a 'Meet the Author' series which draws some of the biggest names in literature, history and current affairs.
Go to anu.edu.au/events and check out everything that we have coming up.
What is your favourite part about the ANU campus?
The campus itself is beautiful. I love the trees and greenery, it can be quite peaceful when it's uni break. My second favourite part is probably Mees Sushi inside the Union building.
Can you tell us a little about your hobbies - we understand you recently purchased a motorbike. Tell us a little bit more!
Yes I did! I bought a little Harley Davidson much to the dismay of my mother! A few of my uncles and my cousin all have Harleys and we go riding some weekends down the coast. It's always a good time when we go. I thought it was time I stopped riding as a passenger and got my own bike.
We understand you're the parent of a fur-baby, named Anubis. His name sounds a little bit like an ANU administration program - did you intend for this to happen?
Haha this isn't the first time I've been asked that question. As much as I love where I work, I definitely did not name my dog after the ANU program! He is a beautiful black and tan Doberman so I called him after the Egyptian God of the underworld, Anubis, who looks very similar to my fur-baby.
Tell us about a memorable gig or event that you've gone to. What made it so memorable?
I went to a music festival in Sydney last year and had such an awesome time. I knew I was in the right job when my first thought when I got to the gates of the festival were 'the coordination for this event must have been insane'. What made it memorable for me was definitely the company I was with.
If staff, postgraduate students and organisations would like help to host an event on campus, what can they do?
Pick up the phone and give me a buzz or send me an email! I am always happy to assist people with their events on campus. It is always great when we can bring people to campus and get the community to come along.
You can also submit an event submission which comes to our office for approval: http://www.anu.edu.au/eform/submit/event-submission
What should people consider before approaching ANU Events for a public event?
We are always happy to hear people's ideas about new events we could host on campus, just make sure that the event is relevant to an aspect of the University's research, teaching, outreach or administration. As much as the students would love us to coordinate a music festival on campus, those sorts of requests tend to be handled by the ANU Students Association.
